The SDDA Seattle Design District Association came together on September 17, 2011 for its first Sidewalk Sale.  The event took place on a typical Seattle partly cloudy /partly sunny day in the Seattle Design Center parking lots in the Georgetown neighborhood.

Vendors participating consisted of some 48 SDDA members and non members from as far away as Portland, Oregon.  Designers, showrooms and retail stores pulled together a wide variety of items to sell, from custom upholstered sofas and chairs, carved stone Buddhas to hand crafted aprons and everything in between.

Over 700 shoppers were on hand to grab a bargain, visit with designers and shop owners, get a bite to eat and enjoy the live music.

The Seattle Children’s Playgarden partnered with the SDDA for a craft booth where children made bird houses from donated fabrics and were able to see their collection of chickens.  Items were donated to sell and raffle off as a fundraiser for the Playgarden.

“I did not know what to expect since it was the first Sidewalk Sale event for the Seattle Design District. But I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout and the sales I made given the fact that the weather was not ideal. There was a variety of merchandise and price points to suit everyone. It was a fun atmosphere, people were ready to buy and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. I look forward to participating again next year. “ Marlene

“I was pleased with the organization of the event and the turnout. I think the target audience of designer client list was great.  The shoppers were educated about the products and the price points. Loved the three raffles spread throughout the day, it kept the energy up and the kids were wonderful. The music was great also. “ Kelly

We know that next years event will be bigger and better that the last.

Can’t wait.
